As succinctly explained by West Vancouver police, “a 13-year-old was handed the keys (to a high-powered sports car) but not the driving skills.”

A teen decided to take a joyride in a Lamborghini Huracán with a buddy, and things didn’t end well.

“Officers began an exhaustive search to ensure the well-being of the driver and any passengers,” said West Van police Sgt. Chris Bigland in a news release Tuesday. “With the co-operation of the vehicle owner, we were able to promptly locate and interview occupants of the car who were uninjured.”

The 13-year-old had been driving but the super-powered vehicle proved too much to handle.

“The youth and a friend decided to take the car for a drive but were unable to control the car in the dark and rainy conditions,” said Bigland. “While significant property damage has been done, we are grateful that no one was hurt in the collision.”

As is painfully clear from photographs released by the cops, the pricey ride was a writeoff.

Police say the driver has been charged with speeding, driving without due care and attention, failing to remain at the scene of a crash and driving without a licence.

Given that this year’s models of the car run from $250,000 to $350,000 — and even a used custom Huracán from the past few years can sell for $350,000 to $500,000 — there are likely to be a few other repercussions at home.
